Exciting news to kick us off today—our latest Software Update is now live: Version 3.8!
The Crystal Color on power-up (which indicates which version you're running) is now Blue.
This update enables Bluetooth connectivity, which means you can now pair your Totem with the brand-new Totem Compass App, available today for FREE on both the App Store and Google Play Store! 🎉
Heads up: You’ll need to update your Totem the old-school way just one more time (via Wi-Fi or Hotspot) before the App can handle updates for you from here on out.

In celebration of the Totem Compass App launch, we’re dedicating this entire Totem Tuesday 3-2-1 to a deep dive into the features, functionality, and future of the Totem Compass app. ⬇️
Once you're updated to Version 3.8, just double-click the Power Button to enter Bluetooth Pairing (blue breathing light) and then you can connect to the Totem Compass App.
When you're done with the app, double-click the Power Button again to turn off bluetooth, and extend your battery!

3 things you can do
1) Easy Software Updates
One simple but beautiful feature of the Totem Compass App—for current users and future Tribemates—is how much easier it makes Software Updates.
Let’s be real: the old update process was... unconventional. 😉
Now? It’s simple. Once you’ve connected your Totem Compass via Bluetooth, updating to the latest Software Version takes just two taps.
You can also save your home Wi-Fi network directly in the app, so your Totems can update automatically without needing to be connected in the moment.
The really exciting part: because the app streamlines this whole process, our lovely Engineering team can now release updates more frequently, without us needing to run a whole marketing campaign around them via email and SMS 😉
That means your Totem Compass experience will keep on getting better faster, with optimizations possible every time we get data back from a major festival!
2) Bond Management + Color Customization
This next feature is a TOTAL game changer 🤯
With the Totem Compass App, you can now name each of your Bonds and assign them any color you want.
That’s right—no more being limited to Pink, Green, Blue, and Yellow.
Want a Purple Bond? Go for it. Orange? Red? Fuchsia?? The whole Totem rainbow is yours 🌈
Whatever your big, beautiful heart desires.
We’ve always embraced simplicity with Totem—especially as a screen-free device—so our original Bond Colors were designed with purpose.
But now that there’s a configuration screen involved? You’ve got options. And who are we to stop you? 😇
You can also give your own Totem a name, which will populate in your friends' Totem Compass App when they Bond with you.
On top of this, you can easily Show/Hide Bonds, as well as Delete Bonds anytime using our nifty app interface.
These customization tools have been some of our most requested features since day one, and we’re beyond excited to roll them out to everyone today.
The time for true Totem freedom is now 🔓
3) Live Map View
Yes, you read that right.
You can now see yourself and your Bonds live on Google Maps, right inside the Totem Compass App!
We really got a real-life minimap before GTA 6 🎮
As much fun as it is to navigate using the Compass alone, sometimes you just want to see WHERE your people are—and now, you can 🎉
That said, this is just the beginning of what we’re building for the Totem App’s mapping features. More functionality is coming soon.
A quick note: Right now, maps do require an internet connection—offline caching isn’t available yet, but it’s coming soon. 🤗

1) Offline Access to User Manual
Fun fact: Over 90% of the tickets sent to our Customer Service team are solved with just a little bit of guidance. 😉
We’re continuing to improve our resources and make everything clearer—but let’s be honest: if you’re stuck at a festival with no cell service and no manual, that confusion hits different.
That’s why we’re so excited that the Totem Compass App now includes the full User Manual—offline.
No internet? No problem. You’ll get step-by-step instructions, clear visuals, and detailed explanations of every feature and every mode, all available anytime, right on your phone.
It’s one more step toward a silky smooth Totem experience for everyone (And yes, a physical manual is coming in every box soon, too!)
2) Check your Satellite Connection and Accuracy
Your Totems have always known how accurate they are.
Now you can know, too 😉
With the Totem Compass App, you can now see exactly how many satellites your Totem is connected to, as well as how accurate your position is—in real time.
Fun fact: Totems need to see at least seven satellites to establish a solid connection, but sometimes they connect to more than 20!
It’s kind of funny—one of the most common questions we get from prospective Tribemates is whether these things are actually accurate.
You'll be able to see exactly how often your Totems clock in their incredible sub-meter accuracy, and even understand how things like buildings or trees might affect it.
Pretty rad if you ask us. 😎

When we tell you this is only the very beginning of the features we're planning for the Totem Compass App... you're gonna have to trust us that what is coming is EVEN MORE awesome 😎
Here are a few of them that are in the immediate pipeline, for you to get pumped about:
- Child Lock: Lock your Totem Compass settings to prevent unintentional changes. Ideal for families and children, or when lending devices to others.
- Offline Map View: Cache your maps ahead of time so you can view them without an internet connection.
- Event-Specific Maps: Easily navigate through the most popular festivals and outdoor events with event-specific maps integrated seamlessly into the Totem App!
- Animations Glossary: Dynamic view of what is happening on your Totem Compass at any given time, alongside helpful descriptions and tips for ease-of-use.
- Offline Messaging: Send and receive short messages with your Bonds, completely offline through the power of the Unity Mesh Network.
