EDC Las Vegas Performance Overview + Software Update 3.7.7!

EDC Las Vegas marked the largest gathering of Totem Compasses in history — and with thousands of devices in play, our Unity Mesh Network™ was put to the ultimate test.

EDC Las Vegas marked the largest gathering of Totem Compasses in history — and with thousands of devices in play, our Unity Mesh Network™ was put to the ultimate test.

While overall navigation accuracy remained strong, some users experienced lower-than-expected range when navigating long distances across stages. In certain cases, the Totem showed the “slow breathing” Bond light even when the friend being tracked was within our 1000m peer-to-peer range:

To clarify: that slow breathing light means your Totem is pointing toward your friend’s last known location rather than their real-time position. This usually happens when the Totem you're navigating to is powered off, out of range, or temporarily loses satellite signal.

You’re not alone — our team experienced this firsthand, too. And while this isn’t the typical standard of performance we expect from the Totem Compass, it gave us valuable insight into how we can evolve faster.

Thanks to EDC’s unprecedented Totem density, we now have a clearer-than-ever picture of how our mesh network performs at true festival scale. We already had major optimizations on the roadmap — but EDC showed us it’s time to accelerate!

The good news? You don’t have to wait.

We’re fast-tracking a series of mesh network upgrades, starting with Software Update v3.7.7, available today. This update boosts long range navigation, reduces communication delays, improves animation fluidity, and makes sure you stay locked in, especially when you're surrounded by thousands of Totem Compasses. Please visit our Software Update Instructions hub for detailed guides on how to update your Totem Compass using either a home Wi-Fi network or a mobile hotspot.

While most upcoming festivals won’t match the Totem Compass density we saw at EDC, this update is a big leap forward in making sure the Totem Compass performs beautifully — no matter how big the crowd is.

Your real-time feedback makes all of this possible. If you’ve got notes, bugs, or ideas, we want to hear them: Totem Compass Feedback
